I’m a nonprofit consultant, an organization builder, an advocacy strategist, a bit of a science geek, and a hopeless optimist. I’m also a fierce mama bear with two equally-fierce little cubs at home. They inspire me to get up and pour my heart out every day.
I see my calling in life as helping people find and use the tools they need to make their voices heard, and I love working with other passionate, smart people to get it done.
Grassroots advocacy is my jam, and I spent 14 years as the Executive Director of a statewide advocacy organization. I’ve also worked in philanthropy; served on the boards of many a fine non-profit organization; hired, managed and evaluated every staff position imaginable; and have had the good fortune to serve as an Interim Director at perhaps the coolest organization in North Carolina. I’ve raised enough money to grow organizations from all sorts of sources, especially from major gifts, grassroots giving campaigns, corporate sponsorships and private foundations. I have lobbied state legislatures, Congress, city councils, federal and state officials, and convinced my fair-skinned, mountain-loving spouse to go to the beach on several occasions.
Making the world a better place is hard work, so it’s important to make sure it’s also fun. I am vehemently opposed to dysfunction, drama, and Debbie Downerism in all its toxic forms. One of my greatest joys is helping organizations cut through that mess to rediscover that they actually like each other, and enjoy their work together.
